Jon Symonds
Managing Director, Goldman Sachs

Jonathan (Jon) Symonds joined Goldman Sachs as a managing director in September 2007. Prior to that Jon was CFO of AstraZeneca.  Joining Zeneca in 1997 was CFO and becoming CFO of AstraZeneca following its merger with Astra in 1999.  In addition to being CFO, Jon was also responsible for Strategy (including M&A, licensing and business development), Investors' Relations, purchasing and IS.

From May 2004 to October 2007, Jon was also a director of Diageo Plc and Chairman of the Audit Committee.  Prior roles also include directors (and Chairman of the Audit Committee) of Qinetiq plc; Chairman of the 100 Group of Finance Directors, Joint Chairman of the Business Tax Forum, Board member of the Accounting Standards Board and founder of the Oxford University Centre for Business Taxation Research. He was awarded a CBE (Commander of the British Empire) for service to industry in the 2007 New Year's honours list.

From 1980 to 1997, Jon worked for KPMG and was made a partner in 1992.  He was Chairman of KPMG's global Chemical and pharmaceutical industry group.  He qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1982.  He has a first class degree in Business Finance from the University of Hertfordshire.

Jon is married with a daughter and son and lives in London and Hertfordshire.  His interests are rugby, golf, opera, reading and scuba diving.
