Ian Ball
Chief Executive Officer, International Federation of Accountants
Ian Ball is Chief Executive Officer of IFAC, an organization comprised of 158 members and associates in 123 countries. He assumed this position in March 2002.
In this role, Ball oversees a staff of professionals involved in developing standards, guidance, and programs to support professional accountants worldwide in providing high quality service.
He is a member of the International Accounting Standards Board Standards Advisory Council. He also served as Chairman of IFAC's Public Sector Committee from 1995 to 2000 and played a key role in initiating the development of international standards for public sector financial reporting. Prior to assuming the position of IFAC Chief Executive, Ball was Principal of Public Sector Performance (NZ) Ltd. and Professor of Accounting and Public Policy at Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand, a position he still holds. From 1987 through 1994, he was Central Financial Controller in the New Zealand Treasury.
Ball is a Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants, where he served as a member of the Council and of the Executive Board, and of CPA Australia. He is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy in the United Kingdom. He has a PhD in local government finance and administration from the University of Birmingham, England.
